At some point you or someone you know may have experienced this issue where you PCs screen shuts down while the computer is still running, this issue is more common in older PCs but can happen even to a new one.

In this blog we’ll try to help combat this issue and try to figure out what’s going on. If you’re not too tech savvy you can contact us and our specialized Tech Repair and support team can happily help you find out the problem and fix the issue!

This issue has been brought up many times, and it happens when something causes the monitor to stop receiving a video signal from the computer.

In the majority of these cases the culprit turns out to be either a corrupted (or out-of-date) video driver, heat build-up inside the PC or a bad video card.

Before you purchase a new video adapter we recommend that you try a couple of things.

First, check the “Support” section of the motherboard manufacturer’s website to see if there’s an updated video driver available. If so, download and install it, then check to see if the problem goes away.

If that doesn’t fix the problem, check to make sure the culprit isn’t over-heating.

You can do that by using speedfan to ensure that the system fans are working as they should. After you have verified that the fans are operating normally you can try blowing the dust out of the computer’s internals.

If the monitor still shuts off with the fans working correctly and all the dust removed, it’s time to go ahead and try a new video adapter. You have a couple of options here:

1. You can purchase a stand-alone video adapter card and install it into an open PCI expansion slot inside your computer.

2. You can purchase an inexpensive USB video adapter and simply plug it into an empty USB port on your PC. These devices don’t cost very much at all, and you won’t even have to open your computer’s case to install it.

However, if the problem persists or you’d rather let a professional assist you, feel free to call or text us and out Tech Support team can assess your computer and fix the issue for you at our store!
