Everything you need to know about Nothing Phone (2)

Posted by Tehillah Mwakalombe on 13th Jul 2023

Nothing has finally released the Nothing Phone (2). It has a similar look to the gorgeous Phone (1) with lights under its transparent back glass. The new phone has a larger screen, slightly different colour options and so much more. The Phone one was in the tech headlines for a good while and that’s definitely a possibility with the phone 2 as well. In this blog, we’ll look at all everything you need to know about the new Nothing phone 2!

The Nothing Phone (2) was launched on the 11th July and is currently available for purchase. The Nothing Phone (2) comes in three different variants and depending on the ram and storage size, it starts from $599 to $799.

Design

The back of the Phone (2), which is available in a white or grey transparent design has almost the same ‘glyph’ lights as the Phone (1), but now has more individual sections, including the central light ring has now been split into six parts. The phone is a little larger than before and has curved glass on the back.

Display

The display is a 6.7in 120Hz OLED screen, which has LTPO tech. Nothing said the screen can get to 1600 nits of peak brightness and the bezel is slightly thinner around the outside.

Chipset

One of the big upgrades is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Nothing has chosen to go for this instead of the newer 8 Gen 2 possibly to keep the price of the product down, and it’s definitely not a huge downgrade. Performance should be still amazing.

Camera

The main camera uses the Sony IMX890 chipset which is similar to the IMX766 from the Phone (1). Any camera improvements will likely have to come from updated image processing software.

Charging and Rating

45W charging is Available but there’s no charger in the box, and you also get 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging. There’s a tiny increase to IP54 from the Phone (1)’s IP53, but this still means the Phone (2) is only officially “splash-proof” and not fully water proof.

Software

Nothing has updated its software to OS 2.0 with the release of the Phone (2), which brings several new features. This affects a lot of the look and feel of the home screen. You can now customise your app icons with the Nothing icon pack, which changes skins all apps into a monochrome version.

Nothing has also added some widgets such as being able to add a quick setting onto the home screen directly, so now you can have buttons for things like Do Not Disturb, Wi-Fi, and Hotspot next to app and other widgets.

Additionally, Nothing is promising three years of software updates to 2026 and four years of security updates every two months to 2027. That’s great to see from a fairly new android phone company and definitely makes the phone look like a decent smartphone option for people that want a unique yet powerful and affordable device!
