Due to the pandemic and recent Cholera outbreak, the increased use of online learning tablets and iPads have become more and more necessary for students and pupils and have been providing an economical and interactive learning tool for the digital age. Here’s why we think investing in a tablet or iPads is one of the best decisions you could make as a student or parent:

Apple Back to School 2019: iPad vs iPad Pro

Interactive

iPads and tablets facilitate learning in many different ways because of interactive apps that allow instant input and feedback. This enables schools to support traditional learning with apps that further allow/facilitate numeracy and literacy skills through a sort of “gamified” education.

the iPads have the potential to enhance children’s numeracy skills in a more engaging and exciting way than traditional approaches.

Mobile

Tablets and iPads offer a truly mobile learning experience, allowing students to take their device from class to class or even outdoors. They are Lighter than a laptop but have a larger screen than a mobile phone, therefore, they are great for use anywhere and with how far companies are advancing the right tablet can sometimes even perform more than some PCs.

Versatile

Whether it’s via Virtual Reality that virtually transports the student back in time, through PowerPoint presentations that can be quickly put together for oral presentations, or through apps that allow students to create videos, iPads and tablets are incredibly versatile.

They have several apps that are accessed via the Cloud, they facilitate different types of learning, including new and engaging ways to complete tasks. Which means iPads can be utilised in a many different ways.

Economical in the long run

Textbooks, printing, and paper can be incredibly costly for any educational facility, while also having a negative environmental impact.

In the meantime, reducing paper also saves time, so much time is spent individual marking several papers and filling them to avoid them getting misplaced. iPads and tablets on the other hand are economical, with one device allowing access to apps, assessments, textbooks, research tools, and so much more.

Gamified education

A true benefit of using digital tools like iPads and tablets is that it “gamifies” education, This helps cater to different learning styles, adding a fun element to the educational environment.

Easy assessment

From late primary school and beyond into the senior years, iPads and tablets allow for easy assessment of curriculum tasks.

When paired with email, messaging and apps, they allow students to file their assessments, record exactly when work was submitted, and simplify the marking, assessment, and feedback process.

Embracing the digital age

Finally, technology like iPads and tablets allows students to embrace the digital age as a foundation of their education.

It allows tech knowledge to become intuitive, setting them up for a life where digital fluency will be available in their career and other areas of their lives.

The biggest problem: cost.

IPad Pros CAN be extremely expensive, costing anywhere from K15,500 to K64,950 depending on the model. Luckily you don’t need the iPad pro models for school work, anything from the iPad 6th gen to 9th gen from several years back supports the 1st gen apple pencil and is still able to handle most educational apps.

Efficient and effective notetaking

Notetaking is probably the main thing you’ll be using your iPad for as a student, and you’re probably wondering what it’s like and what the benefits are to digital notetaking.

There really are only two ways to take notes — by handwriting or typing. Taking notes on the iPad is great because you get the benefits of both handwriting and digital notetaking. And all you notes will be saved to the cloud so no need for several physical notebooks.

Record lectures and write simultaneously

If you use the app notability, as you’re taking notes, It can record the lecture and later playback the audio and see exactly what the professor was saying when you wrote a particular thing down. This is extremely useful especially if you’re a slow writer and have trouble noting everything down in time or sometimes have trouble understanding what you wrote.

Write on lecture slides

You also benefit a lot from being able to import lecture slides directly into my note-taking app as it allows you to focus more on what the professor is saying rather than trying to write down everything from the screen. This way, you have the slides and your own notes all in one place. How to Take and Print PowerPoint Notes on the iPad

Diagrams and images

Most note-taking apps support the functionality of being able to drag images and diagrams directly from external applications. This is especially useful for some classes like biology or chemistry. Not only that but drawing diagrams yourself is easier with auto shape tools.Working out how to add text to my diagrams on the iPad Pro! Great for practice problems

When studying, practice exams, worksheets, and other resources are very important and with an ipad you can directly import them into your notetaking apps that then allow you to write directly on them without wasting paper or printing time. Not only that, but I can very easily redo them by erasing the document over and over again.

Everything is in one place

All your course material is accessible from your iPad. Textbooks, worksheets, syllabi etc. This small device gives you access to everything you need whenever you need it.

As you’re taking notes or doing a worksheet you imported, you can always refer to your textbook or other notes right from your device. With multitasking capabilities, you can also have two apps side by side, which allows you to search the internet or use other apps simultaneously.

It will save you from back pains!

With everything in one place, you’ll realize that your backpack will feel very empty. And you’ll have less strain on your back.

In conclusion, an iPad is just a tool that will help enhance your studying. It definitely isn’t something you need and isn’t for everyone. But if it’s something you’re considering or have been wanting for a while and needed more reasons to invest in an iPad, this blog is for you!
